This is a weight loss journal for both me and my husband. We are young, nerdy, and desperate to lose all of this extra weight that we have become so comfortable with.
We are both morbidly obese - Me at 285lbs, and him at 328lbs. We both need to lose around 150lbs to be at our goals. We have tried dieting in the past, and have succeeded in losing 50lbs, but we gained it back and then some after getting too confident. This time we opted for something a little more drastic..
On May 10th we went to a bariatric clinic in town, but unlike most bariatric clinics this one did not specialize in gastric bypass or the lapband -- this one specializes in a diet. The diet is simple; we receive all of our food from them, and we weigh-in at their clinic once a week. Most of their food is dehydrated pastas/soups, protein bars, shakes, and snacks. Not exactly a McDonald's cheeseburger, but it'll have to do if we wanna do this and do this right.
We started May 11th, and have now been on it for 8 days. It's been really rough, their food feels more like taking medicine than eating. I have had some serious cravings, and a few tough situations; but neither my husband or I have cheated even once! We weighed in today and have both lost a whopping 13lbs! Now that's what I call motivation.
We are keeping ourselves busy with video games (hey, this is called Fat Nerds lol), movies, and odd things we have been doing around the house. We learned pretty quick that going out can be a real big no-no -- temptation is EVERYWHERE! Have you ever gone past your favorite Chinese place in the mall without drooling? Try doing it when you're starving.. not so easy. Until we get a little more use to this new diet, we will stay at home more often than not.
The best thing about this diet though is that once we get closer to our goal weight, the doctor at the clinic will start re-teaching us how to eat and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Once we reach our goal they will offer us a free lifetime maintenance program -- which means even after we finish this diet we will be going to clinic every week and weighing in; this gives us accountability that most diets don't offer, and accountability/a maintenance program is key to keeping that pesky weight off for good.
We will try updating this blog at least once a week, maybe more. And I hope you are looking forward to our next post, which will be the most revealing -- our before photos and measurements. I hope 8 months to a year from now, we will have the after photos to go with those before photos *wink* ;3
